Taekwondo is a Korean martial arts originated after the Second World War, joining different ancient martial art skills that are practiced at the time. The name has three Korean words in the "Tae", meaning broken or kick, "Kwon", which means break or poke your hand and "Do", which means the way or method. In a free translation of Taekwondo (TaeKwonDo) can be translated as a way of fighting the feet and hands. Taekwondo is characterized by fast and attractive foot stripes. Today we consider it one of the most popular martial art skills in the world. This discipline is combat sport, recognized by the International Olympic Committee as an Olympic sport and is included in the program the summer Olympic games.
In the exercise of Taekwondo since 1983. , and the Taekwondo Federation of Serbia was founded in 1985. Today, the association is called the Taekwondo Association of Serbia. Coaches who now work in TK Red Star are one of the pioneers of teakwondo in Serbia.
Taekwondo titles are divided into ten students' positions (GEUP) and ten master titles (DAN). New students move from the tenth title keup (white belt), all titles to master’s DAN (black belt). Accurate color belts depends on the school and the Federation, but most school systems is the following:
10th and 9th geup: White belt 8th and 7th geup: Yellow belt 6th 5th and 4th geup: Blue belt 3rd 2nd and 1st geup: Red belt 1st DAN and higher: Black belt
Most schools also use the track (tape) to the end zone to identify stadiums in between. So the yellow band indicates the 8th geup, while the yellow belt with blue stripe indicates the 7th geup, or "high yellow belt".
Competitions in taekwondo are usually grouped by rank, so that the students struggle with opponents of similar abilities.
